Treatment Overview

SkinPen™, which can also be known as skin needling or microneedling, produces results similar to laser resurfacing but is quicker, easier and cheaper. It really is a revolutionary new device and it is already helping so many people. The SkinPen™ prompts the natural release of the skins collagen and elastin for amazing anti-aging benefits all without surgery.

As we age, the natural production of the skins supporting cells, fibroblasts, and the skins collagen and elastin, naturally diminish leading to wrinkles, sagging and hollows.  Stimulating the skin to produce more fibroblasts, collagen and elastin is called collagen induction therapy and is used as an alternative to facelifts and other surgical and anti-ageing interventions.

This type of skin needling collagen induction therapy can be used for:

  • Skin tightening
  • Acne scars and wound healing
  • Improvement in wrinkles and fine lines
  • Pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Minimise pore size
  • Hair growth

Procedure details

The skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. For better results we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hylaluronic acid, vitamin-C serum or skin lightener for pigmentation during the procedure.

A small handheld SkinPen™ with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow the needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products.

After the treatment soothing vitamin-C serum or hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.

Aftercare and side effects

Once you have had the procedure done, do the following:

Do not expose yourself to the sun

Following your treatment, your micro-needling procedure, stay out of the sun and do not apply any sunscreen, due to the toxins that may be contained in the lotion. Post procedure, the skin channels are completely open, and any toxins contained in topical applicants may be harmful to you.

Do not use any ‘Active Ingredient’ skin products

Post procedure, avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. The skin will be highly sensitive and these products will only irritate the skin further.

Use Collagen Stimulating Peptides

As micro-needling serves to stimulate the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen stimulating peptides assist in that process, further aiding in the stimulation of collagen production.

Avoid the use of makeup after treatment

It is imperative that you let your skin breathe for 24 hours after the treatment. The skin channels are open and using a makeup brush can penetrate the pores, especially if they are very thin, causing further irritation. Using a makeup brush that has been used before can contaminate the skin and consequently lead to infections. Wait 24-48 hours before you apply face makeup to give your skin the necessary time to recover.

Avoid sweating

As you sweat the pores of your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures. This can lead to either a reaction or infection.

Drink water

It is important to stay hydrated before and after your procedure to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
